The silver drachms of Bahram IV (Varhran IV) are among the most elegant issues of the late Sasanian Empire. Struck at the important eastern mint of Herat, this well-preserved specimen displays the refined portraiture and intricate fire altar reverse characteristic of Sasanian royal coinage
Bahram IV ruled the Sasanian Empire from 388 to 399AD, succeeding Shapur III. His reign was marked by relative stability and continued control over the empire’s eastern provinces, where Herat served as a major administrative and military center
