Indo-Parthians. Gondophares I (40-5 BC)

Gondophares I was the founder and most famous ruler of the Indo-Parthian Kingdom, which controlled parts of present-day Afghanistan, Pakistan, and northwestern India. He was originally a Parthian prince, possibly from the Suren clan, and established an independent rule after breaking away from the Parthian Empire

  Gondophares expanded his rule into Gandhara, Arachosia, and Punjab, taking over regions previously controlled by the Indo-Scythians
• Hellenistic & Iranian Influence:
  His administration and coinage showed a blend of Greek, Iranian, and Indian cultural elements
• Coins & Inscriptions:
  His coins bear inscriptions in Greek and Kharosthi, featuring a diademed or helmeted king on the obverse and deities or symbols on the reverse
• Connection to Christianity (St. Thomas Tradition):
  Some historical traditions, particularly the Acts of Thomas, suggest that Saint Thomas the Apostle traveled to the court of Gondophares, introducing Christianity to India. However, this account is debated among historians
