Description

Arab-Sasanian. Ani-Umayyad uprising. ‘Abd al-Rahman b. Muhammad (700 – 703AD)

‘Abd al-Rahman b. Muhammad was a rebel governor who struck Arab-Sasanian coins after revolting against al-Hajjaj b. Yusuf in 83AH (702AD). His rebellion was short-lived, and he was defeated and killed in 84AH (703AD)

This brief period of independence is reflected in his coinage, which retains Sasanian-style designs but demonstrates his assertion of autonomy from Umayyad rule
