Samsam al-Dawla (983–998AD) was a ruler of the Buwayhid dynasty, a Persianate power that controlled much of Iran and Iraq in the 10th–11th centuries. He was the son of ‘Adud al-Dawla (949–983AD) and inherited power after his father’s death, but his rule was marked by internal struggles against his brothers, particularly Sharaf al-Dawla and Baha al-Dawla
