• Astarabad was a strategic city in northern Iran, important for its fertile lands, trade routes, and role as a regional administrative center under the Khwarazmian Dynasty

• Located on the southeastern edge of the Caspian Sea, near the Alborz Mountains

OBVERSE:  in Arabic الخاقان Al Khaqan / العادل al-adil / الاعظم al-azam (Khan of Khans, the Just, the Most Mighty). Mint formula in margins

REVERSE: لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللّٰه “la ilah illa allah muhammad rasulu allah” (there is no deity except God, Muhammad is the messenger of God)

Mongol issues with title “khaqan” are usually struck during the lifetime of Chingiz Khan. The unit of the date on this coin is not legible, but the decade is clearly the 620s AH

Choice AU. Struck on huge broad flan. Very heavy coin. With clear mint. Extremely RARE
