Silk Road. Hunnic gold imitation of Byzantine style. 6th – 7th cent. AD
Such thin gold bracteates are said to be burial tokens, uniface burial piece derived from a gold solidus of the late Roman emperors. Gold burial pieces were normally placed on the corpse during the burial, or attached to its shroud or other ornaments
