Description

Abbasid Caliphate. Temp. Caliph al-Mansur (754–775AD). Citing citing al-Hasan ibn Hamran

AE fals (1.98 g)

Mint Al-Tirmidh (located a few kilometers west of the modern city of Termez along the Amu Darya river)

Dated 142AH (759-760AD)

Struck early in the reign of al-Mansur, this attractive copper fals belongs to the small and geographically restricted series issued under the authority of al-Hasan ibn Hamran, governor of the important frontier district of Tirmidh (Termez). The type belongs to a transitional phase in Abbasid provincial coinage, still adhering to Umayyad epigraphic layout while showing clear standardization under early Abbasid administrative reforms

Coins from Tirmidh of this exact emission, dated 142 AH, are not often encountered, reflecting the relatively small output of this frontier mint and the limited circulation of its copper coinage. An attractive and genuinely scarce early Abbasid provincial issue

The surfaces display deep, even patination of an appealing dark green-brown tone, with patches of original sandy deposits attesting to an untouched state of preservation. The strike is well centered, and the inscriptions remain crisp and fully legible, placing the piece solidly in Extremely Fine condition
